North and North-West Districts at Rohini
Rohini is distinctive because two district administrations operate from the same court complex. The official Delhi District Courts website separately identifies the two districts and provides separate case-status and court resources for each. Two couples who both say they are filing at Rohini may still belong to different district Family Court establishments.
North District
Matrimonial matters connected to North District are administered through the North District Family Court establishment at Rohini, with its own case-status and video-conferencing resources.
North-West District
Matrimonial matters connected to North-West District are administered through the North-West District Family Court establishment at the same complex, with a separate case-status and video-conferencing resource.
The relevant district is determined from the jurisdictional basis of the petition, not from the complex name. This is especially worth checking where the spouses live in different parts of North Delhi, where one spouse has moved after separation, or where the petition relies on the place of marriage or last shared residence.
The jurisdiction question comes before the courtroom. Rohini is relevant to North and North-West Districts, but the court complex itself does not create jurisdiction. The correct filing court should be established before the petition is drafted and filed.
A Rohini-Specific Jurisdiction Check
For a Hindu marriage, Section 19 of the Hindu Marriage Act provides the territorial bases on which a matrimonial petition may be presented, including the place where the marriage was solemnized, where the respondent resides, where the parties last resided together, and, in the circumstances specified by the Act, where the wife resides when she is the petitioner. For the full framework, see our Delhi Family Courts jurisdiction guide.
- Identify the marriage law governing the petition
- Identify the statutory territorial connection relied upon, such as the place of marriage, respondent's residence or last shared residence
- Match that connection to the relevant Delhi district
- If the connection falls within North or North-West District, confirm the appropriate Family Court establishment at Rohini before filing
This is more reliable than choosing a court based on the nearest metro station, current residential address alone, or the fact that the couple has previously attended another court in Delhi.
